ABOUT THE SOMETHING DIFFERENT VARIETY SHOW

Something Different is a local art performance conglomerate that features artists of many kinds (poets, sketch comics, musicians, and even visual artists! You name it, we'll find a way to put it in the show!) There is always a local featured artist who acts as a host to the variety show, a person in the Denver art community who we are essentially spotlighting or emphasizing in a particular month, and a theme that propels the creation of our show! There is a somewhat fluid cast always representing other local voices in the Denver community and a wide variety of acts meant to contribute to the theme of each month!

More about us:

We all come from different backgrounds. We love exploring how the themes have affected our lives, households, day jobs, etc. and other people's lives. We've done themes like Board Games, Memes, several holiday shows, and are about to premier our AI show. I think Joey Laughlin, Brandon Doulos Garrets, and Steven Hartman's writing is never just going straight for the punchline. It's there, and in my humble opinion it's hysterical, but I think you can find heart and relationships that represent not only the critical way we should look at our world, but the charitable way, the way I wish the world right now could see. Our opinions shine through, no doubt, but I don't think we ever leave you there. Not everyone needs to go home feeling right or wrong. Some people should just go home feeling a little, for lack of a better word, "different".

I think where we really shine is that one of the goals of Something Different is when we pick our host and theme is to learn about the many, many stories and artistic perspectives of the local community and elevate those Denver Voices (and what would be fun, obviously). When we do our all-out variety shows, and we have an “SNL” like host or artist from the community they have all come from a huge variety of different backgrounds. Also, keep in mind our shows, unless we're shaving them down for some reason usually include local visual artists (that's how we do one of our favorite improv acts, Art Lawyer) and even

songwriters/musicians. We always make sure that they are individuals that can offer many different perspectives.

Our list of old hosts include, Charya Sein-Weir (KAY OZ) (A Punk/Burlesque performer), James Brunt (An Outstanding Playwright, Poet, Actor, and Pillar of our Local Theatre Community), Toby Yount (Improv Star, who had just finished writing a one man show about navigating the world on the spectrum), Jonathon Underwood (A fabulous actor who spoke to the audience so wonderfully after the 2024 November election), Scott Coffman (No longer with us sadly, had passed just before our Christmas Show, wrote brilliant musical pieces such Communist for Christmas that we played in his honor) and Haley Aran (A lesbian poet who led us through the many avenues of what love is). Each of these hosts participated in the show, and most times were in several sketches. Our go-to visual artist (when we need something done last minute) is Omar Silvas (a dreamer, an EMT, and an incredibly talented illustrator). Our hosts, featured artists, and musician are often very successful busy individuals and we cherish the time they've spent with us!

Also, very important people and places worth naming who have allowed us to interview them and let us use their space as a venue are Robert Gale, Margaret Gale and Dylana Gale of the American Music School, Sean King for helping provide lights there. Ed and Melissa Castaldo of Upstart Crow, Jessica Willman, owner of Do-Gooders Games. I'd also like to thank Mutiny Cafe and Fiction Brewing Company.

Lastly, I'd also like to thank the Anythink Library, where I have printed many materials for our shows and MCsquares (a local company) for also allowing me to have used their technology for the many shows we have done.

We wouldn't be able to do what we love if not for you.

"THIS SHOW WAS REALLY SOMETHING ELSE... AN ENTERTAINING AND DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE"

-Time Traveller who supposedly already saw it but can't find his time machine after coming back. (Guess we'll just have to take his word for it!)
